TAMPA -- Cleomae Dungy, the mother of Bucs coach Tony Dungy, died Thursday morning at her Jackson, Mich., home, the team announced late Thursday. Mrs. Dungy was 81. Tony Dungy was not available for comment, and funeral arrangements, being handled by Wetherby Funeral Home in Jackson, have not been finalized.

Mrs. Dungy is survived by her husband, Wilbur, son Tony and three other children. According to the Jackson Citizen Patriot, the library at Frost Elementary School in Jackson was named after the former English teacher and cheerleading coach in a ceremony in May. Tony Dungy spoke at the dedication ceremony. Cleomae "attended the ceremony in a wheelchair, battling the side effects of diabetes," the newspaper reported.

Last season both of Dungy's parents were occasionally seen on the back patio at One Buc Place watching practice. They also took occasional road trips with the Bucs.

It is unclear how Mrs. Dungy's death will affect Tony Dungy's coaching availability for Sunday's home game against the Eagles. With both teams scheduled to meet next weekend in the wild-card round of the playoffs, Sunday's game is meaningless.

The coach was expected to spend the night at his Tampa home with his family and likely will reveal his plans as early as today.
