CHINESE RESTAURANT OPENS: China Chef, a New York style Chinese restaurant, opened in the Colonial Square plaza at 14426-B N Dale Mabry Highway. The restaurant is open seven days a week and offers takeout. Hours are 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Monday through Saturday and noon to 10 p.m. Sunday. For information, call 968-2355.

PLANT SHOP CLOSES: Silk Plants Plus, 14620 N Dale Mabry Highway, closed in the Village French Quarter plaza near Pita's and Shapes. The Palm Harbor and Brandon stores are still open.

OUTLET CLOTHING STORE OPENS: Burke's, an outlet clothing store, opened Saturday next to the Kash N' Karry at 4531 Gunn Highway. The store is a sister company of Beall's with a larger selection of juniors, updated young men's, giftware, linens and housewares. Hours are 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday. For information, call 964-5377.

CARIBBEAN RESTAURANT OPENS: Cafe Caraibe, a Jamaican/Carribean restaurant, is opening Jan. 15 at 4901-7 Linebaugh Ave., just south of Plantation near the 7-Eleven.

The restaurant offers jerk chicken, curry goat/chicken, pernil (roasted pork from Puerto Rico), beef patties, roti, smoothies and pastries.

"We offer a variety of tastes from all the different islands," says owner Marie Bordeaux.

This is the first restaurant for Bordeaux, who comes from the catering business. Hours are 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday, 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday for brunch. It's closed on Monday. For information, call 908-3768.

PAPA JOHN'S COMING: Papa John's plans to open in two weeks at 4231 Gunn Highway just east of Casey Road. For information, call 963-7272.
