Movie: Kate and Leopold
Summary: Kate McKay (Meg Ryan) is an executive working for an advertising company in New York City. While trying to cope with his breakup with Kate, her ex-boyfriend Stuart (Liev Schreiber) makes a great discovery: a time portal in which he can travel back to observe his ancestors. When he mistakenly brings back a duke named Leopold (Hugh Jackman) from the year 1876, he must accustom Leopold to the new world. As Leopold begins to fall in love with Kate, Stuart tries desperately to send Leopold back to his own time before the portal closes and he is stuck in the new world forever.
My view: This is a fluffy, sappy love story that I would classify as a "chick flick." Granted, Hugh Jackman is pretty funny, and so is Meg Ryan, but this is just a typical love story; nothing new here. The romantic parts of the plot were dull and lackluster, and some of the "funny" parts made me roll my eyes. This is just another average film that won't last long in theaters.
Favorite part: I can't think of one thing I would label as a favorite part.
Least favorite part: Sitting through this movie wasn't terribly thrilling for me. I was tired of the plot a quarter of the way through, and it was downhill from there.
Recommendations: This movie might appeal to Meg Ryan fans, but I don't otherwise recommend it. Wait for the video.
