Student, 18, charged with vandalizing phone box

LAND O'LAKES -- Pasco County sheriff's deputies have arrested an 18-year-old man they say is responsible for vandalizing a telephone box in the Willow Bend subdivision.

Christopher Lee Gray, of 24235 Painter Drive, faces charges of criminal mischief.

Deputies said Gray admitted to beating the telephone box and also to destroying the grass around it on Jan. 7. The damage came to less than $1,000. Gray, a senior at Land O'Lakes High School, was taken to the Land O'Lakes jail. He was released on $250 bail.

Report: Man carrying weapon resisted arrest

SAN ANTONIO -- Sheriff's deputies on Wednesday arrested a man they say resisted arrest and struck a deputy.

Wiley John Pritchard, 51, of 3010 Prospect Road, was walking along Curley Road about 11:15 a.m., carrying what deputies said appeared to be a rifle.

Pritchard refused to stop and release the weapon when a deputy requested him to do so, a report stated.

He then swung the weapon at one deputy like a baseball bat and continued to fight until other units arrived to help subdue him, according to reports.

The deputy suffered a small cut on his right thumb during the incident.

Pritchard faces charges of battery on a law enforcement officer and resisting arrest with violence. He was taken to the Land O'Lakes jail, where he remained Thursday in lieu of $15,000 bail.
