Chris Davis and Mike Ross, the offensive and defensive keys to one of St. Petersburg Catholic's most successful seasons, have been named to the Class 2A All-State first team.
Davis, a quarterback and one of the nation's highest-rated high school seniors, was the Times All-Suncoast Player of the Year after throwing for 1,288 yards, rushing for 990 and scoring 31 touchdowns.
In 2000, Davis was a second-team all-state selection.
Ross, an outside linebacker who will probably play safety in college, led the Barons' sack-happy defense. This season, he had 12 sacks, 114 tackles (29 for losses) and forced seven fumbles.
Ross was a first-team All-Pinellas and All-Suncoast selection.
Two other county players also received first-team honors.
D'Qwell Jackson, a senior linebacker for Seminole, was named to the Class 5A team after leading the Warhawks to the region final for the second consecutive year.
And Jon Whitehead, a senior at Admiral Farragut, was chosen to the Class A team as a defensive back.
