SPRING HILL -- Authorities were investigating on Saturday two hit-and-run accidents that occurred moments apart and less than a mile from each other Friday evening on U.S. 19.
At 6:59 p.m., a pregnant woman was struck near Toucan Trail. The vehicle that hit her continued north on U.S. 19, authorities said. One minute later, a 40-year-old man pushing a bicycle near Forest Oaks Boulevard was struck from behind and thrown to the pavement.
The Hernando County Sheriff's Office had few details of the first accident but said the woman suffered no serious injuries and was treated at Spring Hill Regional Hospital and released. Her name and age were unavailable Saturday.
The man, whose identity was not released pending notification of his family, was flown to St. Joseph's Hospital in Tampa.
"He had no identification," said Cheryl Ales, a dispatcher with Spring Hill Fire Rescue. "He was in very critical condition."
Authorities said the accidents were not related.
No further details were available Saturday on the second crash, which remained under investigation by the Florida Highway Patrol.
