Compiled from Times wires Adam Ant, the flamboyant pop singer whose hits include Goody Two Shoes, has been committed to a London psychiatric hospital after being arrested for firearms offenses, police said Wednesday. Police took the singer, whose real name is Stuart Goddard, to the hospital Monday, 24 hours after he was charged with pulling a gun at a London pub. Under Britain's Mental Health Act, doctors can hold Ant, 47, for 28 days while they assess his condition. London's Sun reported receiving a rambling 30-second phone call from Ant from the hospital. "They've put me in the Alice in Wonderland ward because they think I'm crazy," the tabloid quoted Ant as saying. "The whole thing's a conspiracy, and they are out to get me. I'm not mad." Ant was scheduled to headline a 1980s nostalgia tour this spring. A tour spokesman told the Sun that Ant will perform. The song has been released to radio. Coroner's reportsDirector Ted Demme died of natural causes, the Los Angeles County Coroner's Office said Wednesday. Now come toxicology tests and a thorough look at the 38-year-old's medical history, Eonline.com says. Demme, a nephew of director Jonathan Demme, was pronounced dead Sunday at a Santa Monica, Calif., hospital after collapsing at a charity basketball game. . . . Former Eight Is Enough star Lani O'Grady died of a drug overdose, the L.A. County Coroner's Office said. O'Grady, whose body was discovered in her mobile home in September, originally was believed to have died from natural causes, Eonline.com says. The 46-year-old, who played the eldest daughter in the '70s TV series, had a history of addiction. Toxicology tests revealed fatal levels of the prescription painkiller Vicodin and the antidepressant Prozac, the coroner's office said. There was no indication of whether the overdose was accidental or a suicide. PeopleRobert Downey Jr. is in talks to star in a film about the biggest hotel heist in history, producers said Wednesday in a Reuters report. Six Bullets From Now would be Downey's first acting role since he was placed on probation in July and ordered to remain in drug rehab for cocaine possession. It also would be his first feature film since ending a yearlong prison stay in August 2000 on a previous drug conviction. . . . Uma Thurman and Ethan Hawke are parents again.
