Boating safety class gets under way Feb. 6

CRYSTAL RIVER -- U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary, Flotilla 15-1 has scheduled a boating safety class consisting of four lectures from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesdays beginning Feb. 6 at Crystal River State Buffer Preserve Headquarters (Old Yacht Club), 13450 W Power Line St.

The session will conclude with a test Feb. 20. The program is free, but there is a $20 charge for books and supplies. A diploma and Florida state boating license is issued to those who successfully complete the class. Registration is required. Call Al Alborano at 637-7293 or e-mail him at animal@fx2.com.

Besides conducting safe boating classes, Crystal River Flotilla 15-1 conducts weekly safety patrols on the Crystal River and in the Crystal Bay area of the Gulf of Mexico. It also assists the Coast Guard station at Yankeetown in search and rescue patrols in those areas.
