    Parallel Lives

    Parallel Lives is a program that brings together two notable writers, one black and one white, to talk about growing up in Florida during the segregated world of 1950s Florida. The speakers are Bill Maxwell, author of the book Maximum Insight and an editorial writer for the St. Petersburg Times, and Beverly Coyle, an English professor at Vassar Collage and author of three novels, including her latest,Taken In. The program features anecdotal exchanges between Maxwell and Coyle designed to help the audience understand how racial policies affected the their lives and the lives of all Floridians. Following the talk will be a question-and-answer session. The program will be at 3:30 p.m. Saturday at Unitarian Universalists of Clearwater, 2470 Nursery Road. Child care will be available. Admission is free, but there is a $5 fee for supper. Reservations are required. Call (727) 553-3813.

    CONCERT: John Tesh's 2002 World Tour will make a stop at Ruth Eckerd Hall at 8 tonight. Tesh, former Entertainment Tonight anchor, Emmy award winner and Grammy award nominee, will entertain you with his mix of pop, classical, jazz and new age musical sounds. Tickets cost $34 and $38.     COMEDY SHOW: The "pit bull of comedy," Don Rickles, and star of stage and screen Debbie Reynolds, will do a show full of off-the-cuff humor, impressions and songs at 8 Saturday at Ruth Eckerd Hall, 1111 McMullen-Booth Road, Clearwater. Tickets cost $40 to $55. Call (727) 791-7400.

    CLASSICAL MUSIC AND OPERA: The Florida Orchestra will present a Tribute to Mario Lanza at 7:30 p.m. Sunday at Ruth Eckerd Hall, 1111 McMullen-Booth Road, Clearwater. Tenor Mark McVey will star in the show. The guest conductor will be Ernest Green. Tickets range from $20 to $38. Call (727) 791-7400.

    BAND PERFORMANCE: The Clearwater Community Concert Band, directed by Theodore DeCorso, will give a concert at 3 p.m. Saturday at St. Petersburg College's Clearwater campus in the Arts Auditorium, corner of Drew Street and Old Coachman Road. Doors open at 1 p.m. At 2:30 p.m., the jazz band will perform. Admission is free. Call (727) 799-4437.

    PIANO CONCERT: Valentin Surif, an award-winning pianist from Buenos Aires, Argentina, will perform at 3 p.m. Sunday at the Tarpon Springs Performing Arts Center, 324 Pine St. (inside city hall). Tickets cost $14, $12 for center members and students. Call (727) 942-5605.

    ART SHOW: Four members of The Exhibiting Society of Artists, Ruth Mabee, Elaine McCormick, Margreta Jacobs and Charles Partin, III, are displaying their artwork at the Clearwater Chamber of Commerce, 1130 Cleveland St., through Feb. 7. Admission is free.

    DANCE PERFORMANCE: The Rhythm Works Dance Studio will present Train Tales, a musical dance and comedy production at 7 p.m. Saturday at the Royalty Theater, 405 Cleveland St., Clearwater. Tickets cost $10. Call (727) 441-8868.

    SUNSETS AT PIER 60: Celebrate the end of the day with a festival of arts, crafts and entertainment from 5 to 8 p.m. at Pier 60, Clearwater Beach. Tonight, it's Island Boys (island sounds); Saturday, it's Local Tourist (rock); Sunday, it's Profiles in Jazz (jazz). Free.

    ART EXHIBIT: Syd Entel Galleries is presenting an exhibit by realist painter Susan Grossman from Brooklyn, N.Y., through Feb. 8. A reception will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday at the gallery, 247 Main St., Safety Harbor. Call (727) 725-1808.

    FREE CONCERT: Help celebrate Safety Harbor's 85th anniversary by attending a free concert from 7 to 10 tonight featuring entertainment by Lori Mann and the Mannhattens, cake and children's activities at the Gazebo in John Wilson Park.
