Man wounded at ATM recuperates at home

ST. PETERSBURG -- A 24-year-old man who was shot during a robbery at an automated teller machine was recuperating at home Thursday.

At 9 p.m. Wednesday, Thomas Cardin withdrew $60 from the AmSouth Bank at 3505 Fourth St. N. He was walking to his car when a man with a gun approached, police said.

The man demanded money, so Cardin tossed his wallet over the man's shoulder and then chased him. The man fired twice, striking Cardin in the hand and leg. The wounds were not life-threatening.

Cardin was taken to Bayfront Medical Center, where he was treated and released Wednesday. No arrests were made. Police describe the suspect, who got Cardin's wallet, as a 25-year-old black man wearing baggy blue jeans and a blue bandana. He stood 5 feet 6 and weighed 150 pounds.

Police ask anyone with information to call robbery Detective Steve Corbet at (727) 893-7252.

Florida Lotto's jackpot swells to $77-million

TALLAHASSEE -- Nobody won the Florida Lotto on Wednesday night, so the jackpot has increased to an estimated $77-million for Saturday's drawing.

The Lotto has rolled over eight straight times without a winner. The jackpot is the seventh-largest.

The Florida Lotto numbers selected Wednesday were 14-25-29-31-37-45.

Although no one won Wednesday's jackpot, 735 tickets matched five numbers to win $2,148.50; 15,688 tickets matched four numbers for $81.50; and 330,973 tickets matched three numbers for $5.50.
