    Research scientist to discuss manatee study findings

    LARGO -- Research scientist Bruce Ackerman will speak about manatees from 10 to 11 a.m. today at the Pinellas County Extension office. Ackerman heads the Florida Marine Research Institute's study of manatees for Pinellas and Hillsborough counties. Inside Auditorium B of the extension office, he will discuss a current study on the accuracy of aerial manatee counts. The office is located at 12175 125th St. N. in Largo.     Series helps people living with cancer

    LARGO -- A series supporting those living with cancer, called I Can Cope, will begin Feb. 7 at the Largo Medical Center, 201 14th St. SW. The program will run for eight consecutive Tuesdays from 10 to 11:30 a.m. in the first-floor conference room. Participants may attend any or all of the programs. The topic of the first session Feb. 7 is "Learning about cancer." Other topics are "Understanding cancer treatments," "Communicating concerns and feelings" and "Mobilizing resources and support."
