Daily fishing report

The return of normal weather after sustained high winds and cold also returned bottom fishing to close to normal. Dirty water caused by north and northwest winds in less than 30 feet made gag grouper fishing pointless. Water clarity was much better at more than 30 feet and continued to get better farther offshore. The color change in 60 feet was obvious.

Targeting ledges resulted in almost nonstop action from gag grouper, mangrove snapper, triggerfish and grunts. Frozen Spanish sardines, cut in half, produced the best, with squid also working well. We failed to get a bite using live bait. What produces is constantly changing. At this time of year what works one day may not the next.

Sea sickness is no fun. Taking medication once nausea begins often has no effect. If you have had motion sickness or think you might, the best way to prevent it is to take Triptone, Bonine, or Dramamine, all available without prescription. Take the recommended dose when going to bed the night before and another when you get up. Scopolamine comes in the form of a patch, but only with a prescription. Staying out of the cabin and focusing on the horizon helps.
