Gasparilla for the kids

Although Tampa's official Gasparilla celebration (where men and a few women dress as pirates and "invade" the city) is Feb. 2, this weekend the city offers activities just for kids. Kids can participate in bicycle and skating safety clinics from noon to 4 p.m, then watch the Children's Gasparilla Parade (which begins at Bay to Bay and proceeds north to Rome and Bayshore) at 4 p.m. and, finish off the day with fireworks at 7:30 p.m. Free admission.

Trying to change the perception some kids have that math is difficult and boring, PBS is airing Cyberchase, a half-hour animated adventure show about the subject. Each episode tackles a different math concept with the help of three three young heroes. The show premieres today at 4:30 p.m. on WEDU-Ch. 3.
