Class notesBy Times staff writer© St. Petersburg Times published January 24, 2002 CHS OPEN HOUSE: Citrus High School will have an open house beginning with a pizza dinner at 5:30 p.m. followed by classroom visits at 6 p.m. Monday. Students need to write their schedule of classes for parents to bring to open house. WTI OFFERS EXPERIENCE WORKS/GREEN THUMB INC. COURSE: In association with Withlacoochee Technical Institute, Experience Works/Green Thumb Inc. is offering an 11-week Patient Care Assistant, Certified Nurse's Assistant and Home Health Aide course. This course will be held at WTI in Inverness, starting in March five days a week, six hours a day. To qualify, participants must be 55 or older and income eligible. The course includes free tuition, books and uniforms. High school diploma not required. For information, call Experience Works/Green Thumb Inc. at 726-5477. HOME IS SCHOOL: Home Is School will hold its first meeting as a home school support group from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday at Lecanto Multi-Purpose Senior Center, 1410 County Road 491, Lecanto. The group will provide up-to-date information on home school education issues, resources and curriculum published specifically for one-on-one teaching situations. Home Is School operates through the cooperative effort of all members. Home Is School is an inclusive group where all are welcome. It is nondenominational and without regard to race, religion or teaching styles. The group recognizes the need for tolerance, understanding and respect for people's differences. Directions to the meeting: from State Road 44, turn south on 491. The Multi-Purpose Center is 0.7 miles from SR 44 on the west (right) side of the highway. GRAND OLE OPRY CITRUS COUNTY STYLE: Homosassa Elementary School's Grand Ole Opry, Citrus County style, will be presented at 7 p.m. Saturday at Curtis Peterson Auditorium in Lecanto. Doors open at 6 p.m. Entertainment will include Jesse Watson, Judy Dotson, Reed Franklin, Brandy Halkett, Paige Halkett, Holly Hampton, Rachel Hough, Freddie Lyles, David MacMeeken, Rebecca Young, April Saxer, Nikki Simmons, Jimmy Brown, Jim and Sheila Harpin, Susan Hampton and Kylene Helms. Tickets are $7 ($9 at the door) and available at Act I Video, U.S. 19, Homosassa Springs; the Chamber of Commerce offices in Inverness, Crystal River and Homosassa Springs; and all SunTrust banks in Citrus County. They may be ordered by mail at P.O. Box 498, Homosassa, FL 34487, or by telephone, 628-2953. K-Country 93.7-FM DJ "Big Red" will host the show. The show is sponsored by Caribbean Catering, Dan's Clam Stand, Mr. Wangs, Papa John's, Subway, Winn-Dixie, Publix and Kash 'n Karry. Proceeds will benefit Homosassa Elementary School. TRAVEL TO LONDON: Central Florida Community College is sponsoring a Spring Break London Study Tour and the price has been reduced to $1,195. Space is still available. You don't have to be a CFCC student to go. All area residents and students from other regions are eligible to enroll. Those enrolled can earn three hours of college credit by taking the course HIS 2955, Studies Abroad in Civilization, or take the class on an audit (non-credit) basis. Overseas travel will be from March 9-16 and includes round-trip transportation from Orlando, transfers to lodgings, twin-bedded rooms in city-center hotels, two meals a day, a one-week London Travelcard and admission to all major museums and galleries. There will be full-day visits to the British Museum, the National Gallery and the Tate Galleries, plus half-day visits to the Museum of London, the Courtauld Galleries of Impressionist Art and the new British Library. Three London theater performances will be a special feature of the tour. The travel group leader and instructor is professor Ira Holmes of the CFCC Humanities and Social Sciences Division. Holmes organized the first CFCC Studies Abroad course and has led more than a dozen CFCC study groups to Europe.
