Daily fishing report

Warmer weather has brought water temperatures back to more tolerable levels, allowing the grouper bite to pick up.

Most action this week has been in 40-50 feet of water. Undersized red and gag grouper were abundant on numerous ledges. Occasionally a big fish or two would join in, providing enough for dinner. Remember to be careful when removing hooks from these undersized fish. Sometimes sacrificing tackle that's lodged deep in a small grouper's mouth is better than trying to retrieve it. In a few days the hook will corrode and fall out on its own.

Live pinfish have been the bait of choice. Fresh pins can be found just outside our passes. During winter months schools containing thousands of these tasty baitfish will bundle up on the sand, normally within a mile of the bell buoys.
