SPC's Davis a Parade All-American

The list of accolades for St. Petersburg Catholic quarterback Chris Davis, which already includes being the Times All-Suncoast Player of the Year and at the top of most lists ranking the state's recruits, just got a bit longer.

Davis can now call himself a Parade All-American, a designation the Sunday news magazine made official this week.

"That is huge," St. Petersburg Catholic coach Dan Mancuso said. "This is really huge. They told me that there have only been four ever chosen from St. Petersburg, so it's really a nice honor."

Davis led the Barons to an 8-2 season in 2001, rushing for 991 yards (10.2 a carry) and 15 touchdowns, and adding 1,288 yards through the air with 12 touchdown passes.

Lauded for his 4.4 speed and devastating moves on the field, Davis is the first Pinellas County player named to the Parade team since Clearwater lineman Greg Frey in 1990. Other Pinellas players named include Clearwater running back Terry Griggsley in 1984, Dunedin defensive back/running back Tyron Mouzon in 1987 and Clearwater wide receiver Joel Parker in 1969.

Davis received a plaque from Parade and will be featured in the magazine on Super Bowl weekend.

He was also recently chosen as a defensive back to the Riddell Footwear All-American team.

Davis is one of six state players named to the Parade team.

He joins Dr. Phillips wide receiver Ryan Moore (who has committed to Miami), Tallahassee Lincoln quarterback Gavin Dickey (Florida), Jacksonville Beach Fletcher running back Ciatrick Fason (Florida), Punta Gorda Charlotte wide receiver Dishon Platt (Florida State) and Tallahassee Lincoln safety Pat Watkins (Miami/Georgia/FSU).
