Man shot, killed in Midtown area; 2nd homicide in 2002By Times staff writer© St. Petersburg Times published January 25, 2002 ST. PETERSBURG -- A 21-year-old man was shot to death on a street in the Midtown area Thursday, the city's second homicide of the year. Deon L. Clinton died at Bayfront Medical Center after being shot about 3:15 p.m. in the 2000 block of 30th Street S. No arrests had been made late Thursday. "He was a quiet person and really kept to himself. He never bothered anybody," said his mother, Corine Kelty. "We don't understand how this could have happened." Police say Clinton was shot in the upper torso. Residents in a nearby house heard gunshots, then saw Clinton run past their door and collapse. Police officers found Clinton lying in an alley behind 2004 30th St. S. "We're canvassing the neighborhood for witnesses to see if anybody heard or saw what happened," said St. Petersburg police spokesman George Kajtsa. Clinton is from St. Petersburg; police say his last known address was on Burlington Avenue. Anyone with information is asked to call police Detective Glen Henry at 551-3058. © 2006 • All Rights Reserved • Tampa Bay Times
