HUDSON -- An Eckerd drugstore clerk was arrested Wednesday and faces a charge in the theft of five bottles of painkillers, Pasco County sheriff's deputies said.

Deputies said that over the past three months, 18-year-old Casey Warren Forbes of 11220 Pinto Drive stole five hydrocodone bottles, each with 100 pills.

The pills have a street value of $5 to $7 each, deputies said. Hydrocodone is the narcotic ingredient in Vicodin.

Deputies say that Forbes told them that in each theft he took a bottle, hid it in a sock, finished his shift and left. Each time he took the pills to give them to friends, the reports state.

Forbes faces a charge of trafficking a controlled substance, deputies said. He was being held Thursday night at the county jail in Land O'Lakes in lieu of $50,000 bail.
