Publix Supermarkets is seeking a county waiver that would allow alcohol sales at two stores under construction in the Lutz area.
The Lakeland-based company is requesting special use permits for its stores at 19221 N Dale Mabry Highway and 15560 N Nebraska Ave. Both would lie within Hillsborough County's minimum distance requirement from community uses, such as schools and churches.
A land use hearing officer is scheduled to hear both petitions March 8. (Petition 02-0372 and 02-0373)
TOWN 'N COUNTRY: Wal-Mart Stores Inc. wants to modify the site plans of its store at Waters Avenue and Hulsey Road.
The company wants to reduce the number of parking spaces alloted for Wal-Mart in the plaza parking lot from 571 to 462. It is seeking permission to expand its garden center and use a parking lot west of the store for open storage.
A zoning hearing master is schedule to hear the plan April 8. (Petition 02-0335)
LUTZ: Wendy and Gary Viles are seeking permission to convert a home at the corner of Livingston Avenue and Robertson Road into a private school.
The Viles would convert the four-bedroom home into the Hand-in-Hand Pre-School. According to the petition, the property would be fenced and gated. Plans include 10 paved parking spaces and driveway access for Wallace and Robertson roads.
A land use hearing officer is scheduled to hear the petition March 8. (Petition 02-0385)
County commissioners are scheduled to hear the following petitions Tuesday:
LUTZ: Commissioners will hear plans for a 200-acre religious retreat on Van Dyke Road. Robert N. Lynch, the Diocese of St. Petersburg, is asking for a 250-seat chapel, a 21,000-square-foot spiritual center, 18 residential cottages, a 7,000-square-foot youth center, nature trails, a pool and exercise facilities. County staff, the Planning Commission and a zoning hearing master have endorsed the petition. (Petition 01-1520)
TOWN 'N COUNTRY: Sanjay Agarwal wants a rezoning that would allow manufacturing on 1.4 acres at the southwest corner of Linebaugh Avenue and Anderson Road. He plans to operate, manufacture and sell marble and granite counter tops. County staffers and a zoning hearing master approve of the request. (Petition 02-0042)
CARROLLWOOD: Burcaw & Associates is proposing a 26-home subdivision on 10.38-acres at the end of Pine Bay Drive. County staff, the Planning Commission and a zoning hearing master have recommended approval of the project. (Petition 02-0046)
When and where
Hearings of county zoning hearing masters and land use hearing officers, and land use meetings of the County Commission are held on the second floor of the County Center, 601 E Kennedy Blvd. Zoning hearings begin at 6 p.m., and commission meetings begin at 9 a.m. Both are televised on government access channels.
