Bob Whitmore has been named a partner in WalkerWhitmore Inc., Tampa. Whitmore was vice president/creative director.

BANKING

Laura A. Schaffer has been named vice president of the loan production office at Platinum Bank, Tampa. Schaffer was cash management officer at Manufacturers Bank, Tampa.

Christopher Kneer has been named vice president of Community Bank, Bradenton, and will work in Bradenton and Tampa. Kneer was assistant vice president of commercial lending for South Tampa.

CONSTRUCTION

C. William "Bill" Gregory has been named president of Southern Power & Controls Corp., Tampa. Gregory was vice president of operations.

EMPLOYMENT

David R. Wirta has been named executive vice president of sales of HireCheck Inc. and its affiliate, Substance Abuse Management Inc. Wirta was assistant vice president of strategic sales at Choicepoint Services Inc., Dallas.

FINANCIAL

Peter J. Vasti has been named tax manager at the accounting firm of Gregory, Sharer & Stuart, St. Petersburg. Vasti was a tax consultant at Ernst & Young, Tampa.

FITNESS

David Dunlap has been named director of corporate sales for Lifestyle Family Fitness, St. Petersburg. Dunlap was vice president of sales at Aquatrend Inc., Orlando.

LEGAL

The Carrollwood Community Bar Association announced the following appointments: Mary Lynne Duet, president; Joseph Kalish, vice president; Randall O. Reder, secretary; and Brett Wadsworth, treasurer.

HOSPITALITY

Edward F. Bucholtz has been named general manager for Hyatt Regency Tampa. Bucholtz was general manager for Hyatt Charlotte, Charlotte, N.C.

NONPROFIT

Janis E. Smith has been named to the board of directors of CHOICES for Community Health, Pinellas County's health partnership. Smith is executive director of the Clearwater Branch YMCA.

Gordon "Mac" McKerral has been elected to the board of directors for the Pinellas County Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals. Other appointments include: Jim Manchester, director of development; Nina Berkheiser, director of planned & capital gifts; and Laurie Parker, director of volunteers. McKerral is editor of the Tampa Bay Business Journal; Manchester was chief development officer for the Tampa Bay chapter of the American Red Cross; Berkheiser was SPCA's director of development; and Parker was director of Humane Society, Frederick, Md.

TELECOMMUNICATIONS

Harry Bruns has been named president of Alltel's communications operations for Florida and the Gulf Coast. Bruns was vice president for sales and distribution.
