NEW YORK -- A newly discovered and very detailed surveillance video from a tollbooth may reveal new information about the crash of American Airlines Flight 587, according to a published report.

Citing unidentified government sources, Time magazine reports in this week's issue that the camera captured the entire catastrophe that sent the Airbus A300-600 crashing into a residential neighborhood in Queens, killing all 260 people on the plane and five on the ground.

The plane crashed Nov. 12 three minutes after takeoff from John F. Kennedy International Airport. It can be seen flying normally and then things start to go wrong, an official at the National Transportation Safety Board told Time.

Safety investigators have said the tail fin, or vertical stabilizer, on the plane fell off before it slammed into the neighborhood.

New Yorkers warned to conserve water

NEW YORK -- New Yorkers must conserve water or face possible shortages brought on by this winter's unusually warm and dry weather, Mayor Michael Bloomberg said Sunday.

"There are not a lot of storms on their way as far as we can tell, so this is a problem that is going to get worse," Bloomberg said.

New York City has been on a drought watch since Dec. 23.

"Today or tomorrow we are likely to enter a drought warning," he said.

A drought warning would be declared if there's less than a one-third chance the reservoirs will be filled by June 1. Upstate reservoirs are now at 40 percent of capacity. Normal capacity for this time of year is 80 percent.

Bloomberg encouraged residents to take shorter showers and reminded them that former Mayor Ed Koch recommended showering with a friend.

"That would save money," Bloomberg said. "Whether it's a good idea or not, or the morality of that, I suggest you call former Mayor Koch. I'm sure he'd be very happy to discuss his views there."
