Mary Ann Marger, who has been the St. Petersburg Times art critic since 1987, is retiring today.
With wit, style and a true love for her subject, she has reported on everything from the biggest museum shows to the hottest young local artists. She has helped budding art collectors learn how to get started and has kept the aficionados current on the best art shows around our area and beyond. Her work will continue to appear in our pages from time to time, as she will contribute on a freelance basis -- as she did in the decade before becoming art critic.
Well introduce her successor soon. In the meantime youll still see art news and reviews in Weekend and in Sunday Arts from other talented writers.
Please join us in congratulating Mary Ann Marger on her successful career, and in offering best wishes to her in her retirement. It surely wont be a quiet one; Marger and her husband, attorney Bruce Marger, have eight young grandchildren to keep them running.
