By Times staff Maynard Ferguson performs at Sickles High SchoolJazz legend and trumpet virtuoso Maynard Ferguson and his band, Big Bop Nouveau, will perform a unique blend of professional musicianship while supporting musical education. This evening of jazz is at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday at Sickles High School, 7950 Gunn Highway. Tickets are $20 per person and can be purchased in advance or at the door. Folk singer Judy Cook on tourJudy Cook is a singer, interpreter and a researcher of traditional Anglo-American songs and ballads, many which are hundreds of years old. Cook has no instrumental backup as she narrates old songs from unknown poets. Her first recording of unaccompanied traditional songs and ballads, If You Sing Songs, was released in 1998 and was followed two years later by Far From the Lowlands. The performance is at 4 p.m. on Sunday at the Unitarian Universalist Church of Tampa, 11400 Morris Bridge Road. Tickets are $10 at the door. For information, call 218-3463. Blues veteran performs at Skipper'sSean Chambers is a blues veteran and one of the premier guitarists in the area. Chambers went from playing heavy metal to Jimi Hendrix. Later, he became well-known for his Stevie Ray Vaughan covers, including a few successful national tribute tours. Today, Chambers plays his own music along with that of his major influences such as Freddie King, Johnny Winter and Albert Collins. He has performed at several festivals backing Hubert Sumlin. The show is at 8 p.m. on Saturday at Skipper's Smokehouse, 910 Nebraska Ave. Tickets are $5 at the door.
