GAMES TO WATCH

Admiral Farragut at IRC

WHEN: Tuesday, 7 p.m.

OUTLOOK: At the moment, a matchup of the county's hottest private school teams. Admiral Farragut (No. 6 in Class A) has won nine in a row, and the Golden Eagles (No. 2) have won 13 in a row. This game also pits the best private school players against each other as Farragut's Vitor Boccardo tries to hold on to the county scoring lead against IRC's Gabe McMillen (25.4 vs. 25.3 points per game).

Seminole at Largo

WHEN: Thursday, 7:30 p.m.

OUTLOOK: Provided that neither team hits a bump before this game (Largo faces potential pothole East Lake tonight), the winner should emerge with the PCAC's North Division crown. We're not sure if that's a prize or not -- a meeting with potential South champ Lakewood? At Lakewood? Eeek. Largo won its previous meeting with Seminole 79-54 during Christmas break.

Boca Ciega at Lakewood

WHEN: Thursday, 7:30 p.m.

OUTLOOK: This has Game of the Year potential. These teams played to a standstill during Christmas break until Lakewood pulled away in the final minutes. The Spartans have feasted on county opposition, winning all seven games by an average of 40 points ... but won 60-54 against Bogie and haven't played the county's better teams.

St. Petersburg Catholic at Gibbs

WHEN: Thursday, 7:30 p.m.

OUTLOOK: We know public school coaches don't have a lot of respect for the smaller schools, but it's worth noting the Barons won the previous meeting between these teams 76-71. Just saying.

The Super Seven

With last week's ranking in parenthesis

1. Lakewood (1) -- Our condolences to the fine city of Bradenton, whose Class 4A, District 11 teams are 0-6 and have been outscored by an average margin of 92-37 by the Spartans.

2. Largo (2) -- Packers keep rolling on way to big meetings with Seminole and Lakewood or Bogie next week.

3. Boca Ciega (3) -- Big 79-69 win versus No. 4-ranked Bradenton Manatee (geez, that city is having hoops problems) shows Pirates might be state contenders.

4. Seminole (5) -- Guard Matt Walker had a triple-double last week as Warhawks make late charge for district's top seed and berth in PCAC title game.

5. Indian Rocks Christian (NR) -- Longest winning streak in the county at 13 as Golden Eagles continue perfect 2002 with win against Northside Christian.

6. Countryside (NR) -- Cougars are 0-4 versus Gainesville schools and 0-2 versus New York schools. In the county, they are a not-too-shabby 9-3 with losses to Largo (twice) and Bogie.

7. Northside Christian (7) -- In the "players we like" category, Justin Barnaky has averaged 33 points per game and shot 35 of 40 from the line the last four games since leading scorer Deon Troupe's injury.
