The recent unseasonably warm weather is going to be replaced by a cold front. The highs today should be in the upper 60s with the temperatures dipping into the lows 40s at night.
"When you hit 80s like we had the other day and then go to the 60s, it's going to feel cold," said Joseph Cennami, a local magician who goes by the stage name Joseph Joseph and does outdoor shows in BayWalk and Ybor City. "I was just asking somebody the other day, 'You think winter is over? You think we snuck by it?' "
Not quite.
The cooler weather should stay for at least a week, keeping temperatures between 50 to 70 degrees, said Eric Oglesby, a meteorologist at the National Weather Service in Ruskin. The middle of the week could seem even colder because of showers from a storm system expected to move over the area as early as late Tuesday night.
For the past few weeks, the area has experienced unusually warm weather. On Jan. 31, the high temperature was 86 degrees, tying the all-time high for that month, Oglesby said.
"We were basically under a strong ridge of high pressure pumping tropical air over the area," he said.
