Riverview's search for a new coach ended Monday when third-year assistant Dustin Almeida was elevated to the head position.

Almeida, a 28-year-old who has been with the Sharks for most of the school's four-year existence, was a favorite among the 12 candidates interviewed for the job.

"He's young, energetic and full of fire and brimstone," Riverview athletic director Ron Wardlow said.

"When we did the interviewing, we had a list of requirements that each applicant had to meet. He's the one who came out on everyone's scorecard."

After moving to the area from Rhode Island in 1999 to join the Sharks, Almeida worked under former coach Alex Albert as a defensive coordinator. Albert, who led the Sharks to the playoffs twice in four seasons, accepted a coaching job in Ohio in December.

Almeida is also the girls track coach and was named Riverview coach of the year last year.
