Art for your sweetheart
Pasco County's largest and most popular outdoor art show, March on Art, was scuttled a few years ago when its dates conflicted with another outdoor festival.
That didn't mean outdoor art in Pasco was gone forever.
Last year, the Greater New Port Richey Main Street launched a new outdoor event, For the Love of Art, which included varied forms of artistic expression -- fine art, craft art and performance art -- plus live entertainment, interactive art activities for kids and a gussied-up flea market called "art history," with antiques and collectibles. There's food, too.
The show and sale won praises from state officials, show participants and people who attended, so it's being brought back from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.
Main Street executive director Laura Turner said she chose the dates to come right before Valentine's Day, so people can find artsy gifts for those they love. About 50 artists are expected to have booths.
Tarpon Springs artist Michelle Mardis explains the official logo of this year's show: "After going to the art show, she ran all the way home hugging her new favorite painting that she can't wait to hang in that perfect spot on her living room wall."
The site is around Orange Lake in New Port Richey. To reach it, turn east off U.S. 19 onto Main Street in New Port Richey, go over the Pithlachascotee River bridge, then turn north on Bank Street to the free parking lot.
