Losing the Class 3A, District 7 boys soccer title to county rival Central has become a good thing for Springstead.
Due to a controversy involving the other two teams in their regional bracket, the Eagles (16-3-2) have been awarded a bye and an automatic spot in the Feb. 15 regional final.
After beating Lakeland George Jenkins 3-2 on Thursday, the Eagles were to play Lyman in Tuesday's semifinals. Lyman beat Satellite Beach on penalty kicks 2-1, but was stripped of the win after using an unqualified player, who according to Florida Today, was red-carded in its district final against Titusville.
The game was officially forfeited to Satellite Beach, but Florida High Schools Activities Association rules state no team may advance in a game that is forfeited.
