'Under served' area awaits new hotel option

TOWN 'N COUNTRY -- Visitors to northwest Hillsborough County will soon have a place to stay north of Waters Avenue.
Holiday Inn Express Hotel & Suites is building in the Westlake Corporate Park off Anderson Road across from the AMC Veterans 24 movie theater. The hotel is scheduled to open its doors to business travelers and vacationing families on June 1.
"We recognize this area as being very under served from the hotel standpoint," said Ford Smith of Baystar Hotel Group, the company developing the $7.4-million hotel.
The four-story, 85-room hotel, under construction since September, will feature an outdoor pool, fitness center, laundry facilities and data ports. Guests will also be offered free local phone calls and complimentary continental breakfast.
It will include 32 guest suites, each with a kitchenette and work desk.
Ford said he expects the new hotel will attract corporate travelers visiting nearby businesses -- such as Capital One and Nutmeg Mills -- during the week. But on the weekends, he said, the hotel will most likely serve leisure travelers visiting family in nearby Carrollwood or Westchase.
Baystar also owns and operates the Hampton Inn on Waters Avenue.
