The union cites his knowledge of the city in the race for Seat 2.

PINELLAS PARK -- The city's firefighters have endorsed Alan Swartz for City Council.
Swartz, 43, a local accountant, is facing Sandra Bradbury and Ralph Marlow in the race for Seat 2. The seat was vacated when Chuck Williams decided not to run for reelection. This is Swartz's first run for public office.
"Alan Swartz has demonstrated his commitment to the Pinellas Park community through his membership in various community service organizations, such as Kiwanis and the Chamber of Commerce," said Jerry Lubick, president of the fire union.
Lubick cited Swartz's membership on the city's general employee pension board as one of the reasons for the endorsement. Swartz also served on the city's Charter Review Commission, the group that recommended changes to the city's constitution.
"Mr. Swartz has a thorough knowledge of how the city is operated and his background in financial matters should prove to be an asset to the City Council," Lubick said.
The Pinellas Park City Council is composed of four members and the mayor. They set policy for the city, approve large contracts and oversee the budget. The mayor serves a two-year term while council members are elected every four years.
City Council members run at large for numbered seats. The winner will be paid $13,000 annually, plus life and health insurance, and is eligible for a city pension. The winner also will get a pool pass, a recreation pass and a badge.
The election is March 5.
