Glazer dad tolerates too much

© St. Petersburg Times, published February 10, 2002

I think Malcolm Glazer should be nominated as father of the year. After all, how many dads give their sons a $650-million toy and not get angry when they break it?

McKay should pack bags

How many times is Rich McKay going to let the Glazers kick him in the teeth? First they want McKay to step down as GM and make him president to make way for Bill Parcells. Then McKay recommends Marvin Lewis as coach and the Glazers say,"No, let's pursue Jon Gruden." Appears there is a power struggle going on that McKay has no chance of winning. Rich, if you haven't begun already, start looking for a new job.

USF athletes are slighted

I was discouraged by your coverage of Altron Jackson becoming the career leading scorer in Conference USA. His accomplishment received almost no fanfare; it was not part of any headline and was not mentioned in the article about USF's win over UCF until several paragraphs into the article.

USF athletics are labeled inferior; its comparatively fledgling sports programs are judged unfairly by the standards of the ancient programs of UF and FSU. The apathy in the bay area toward USF's sports programs never ceases to amaze me. When it seemed as though something a USF player accomplished would finally get attention, it was swept under the carpet and into the pit of second-rate news.

Please give Jackson the recognition he deserves for being an outstanding basketball player -- one of the best in the state -- and the best scorer in the history of Conference USA.

USF is not a second-rate university, and it is time our residents stop referring to it that way.

Tyson deserves less press

I couldn't agree with Hubert Mizell more. It's obvious Mike Tyson is out of control: reckless driving, rape, drugs and numerous assaults. He is a deplorable example for our youth. I can't think of one thing admirable about his character. If we never read another word about him or see another picture we would be better off.
