Letters to the EditorsBothwell was special, talented, humorous© St. Petersburg Times published February 13, 2002 Re: Times columnist held onto a corner of our life, hearts, by Scott Taylor Hartzell, Feb. 6. Humorist and newspaper columnist Dick Bothwell was a gem. He was a special man, and I'm glad you did a column in his memory. His O.A.T. (Of All Things) column was the first thing I'd read when I got the paper. The humor always put me in good spirits for the day. Mr. Bothwell was a great cartoonist and humorist of humble spirit. Part of his greatness was that he could go beyond the narrow limits of ego and reach out to others. He made unhappy people happy. Bothwell's sojourn on earth as an increaser of laughter and true friend of humanity will always be remembered. In his memory, I wish the St. Petersburg Times would resurrect Bothwell's Of All Things column. A daily column of humor, with readers' input, would fill a void in our community.
Lush lawns gobble up resourcesJust think about all the lawns in the local area (or any area, for that matter). How many millions of gallons of water are used to water them? How many thousands of gallons of fuel are used to mow them? Include the lawn services with their big trucks to haul their mowers around! Just think of the water, oil and money that could be saved if lawns were to be replaced by something that would require little or no maintenance.
