Little League schedules spring opening ceremony

NEW TAMPA -- It's time to play ball again and the New Tampa Little League is launching its spring season with a special opening ceremony at 8 tonight.

The evening will begin with a fundraising dinner from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at 18050 Kinnan St.

Food for the dinner is being donated by the Outback Steakhouse on N 56th Street. Dinner is $5 for adults and $3 for children. All proceeds will benefit the New Tampa Little League.

3 neighborhood leagues seek team players

TOWN 'N COUNTRY -- Three neighborhood leagues are looking for players.

Town 'N Country Recreational Center is forming a league for girls basketball players ages 8 to 15. For information, call 903-2247.

A softball league for players over 50 is seeking participants. Anyone interested is asked to attend practices at 7 p.m. Thursdays at Garvey Field on Rome Avenue at Sligh Avenue. Call 878-3149 for details.

The Leagurettes slow-pitch softball team is holding open registration for girls ages 5 to 17. For information, call 855-0170 or 269-8479.
