Back troubles continue to slow Hamilton

ST. PETERSBURG -- Top outfield prospect Josh Hamilton is sidelined again with back troubles.

Hamilton is receiving treatment and is expected to join the Rays position players for their first workout Wednesday, player personnel director Cam Bonifay said.

"He's hurt, but I don't think he's any worse off than he has been," Bonifay said. "We're just doing things to make sure no issues arise, and he's continuing the rehab process to try and eliminate any and all recurrences."

Hamilton missed most of last season with back and leg injuries and was sidelined during the Arizona Fall League. He was optimistic about his health after receiving offseason treatment and had been working out at the team training facility until last week.

"He should be ready to go if there are no further flare-ups," Bonifay said. "We've been pleased with what the trainers and doctors have said."
