New public works chief takes helm

INVERNESS -- An old hand at Florida Water Services comes on board Monday as Inverness' new public works director. Frank Sanderson has worked for Florida Water in Citrus Springs since 1988, first as a technical and environmental administrator and then as the west region manager. His other credentials include water and sewer superintendent for St. Cloud and field supervisor for Southern States Utilities in Orlando. He will run and maintain Inverness' utilities systems, which serve about 4,000 water and 2,800 sewer customers, as well as the city's roads. Sanderson will oversee about 21 employees and earn $49,500 a year. He replaces Bill Thatcher, who left in October.

Dungy to speak at athletes dinner

CRYSTAL RIVER -- Tony Dungy, the former Tampa Bay Buccaneers head coach, will be the guest speaker Tuesday night at the Fellowship of Christian Athletes Celebration Dinner at Rock Crusher Canyon. The event begins at 6. The cost is $125 per person. To host an eight-person table, the cost is $1,000. Table hosts will have the opportunity to meet Dungy, who now is the head coach of the Indianapolis Colts, and have pictures taken with him before the reception. All proceeds benefit FCA.
