Comments about the unusual nature of some requests are something we are quite used to. In fact, it is a source of pride that so many unique needs can be so quickly met by our problem-solving readers.
But here's a situation we haven't encountered before.
Joshua is the lonely Siamese. He lives the good life with Gilda Ross in Port Richey -- lounge on the screened porch, toy box in the Florida room, that sort of thing. But like Adam, who felt something was missing, Joshua wants a mate.
Gilda, who like every self-respecting cat lover has taken his wish as her command, is seeking a female Siamese, 2 to 5 years of age. She hasn't been having much luck, so she'd like to put the word out to folks who may be moving and can no longer keep their cats.
Gilda promises that the lucky lady will have a wonderful home, sharing the lounge . . . the toy box. If you can help Joshua, please call Gilda at (727) 862-7467.
Easter alert! Crafts emergency. Dorris Kent, president of Friends of the Library, is preparing for a fundraising event, Eggarama, where folks will compete in decorating sugar eggs. The winning eggs will be displayed in the auditorium of St. Petersburg's main library March 14-17.
But, before eggs can be decorated, eggs must exist. Dorris and company need to locate molds for making the sugar eggs and decorative plastic egg holders to provide egg support. If you know where to find these items call Dorris at (727) 399-2784.
Jane, a cancer patient on a limited income, needs belted, thick briefs and/or large, thick diapers for severe incontinence. Naturally, this is a daily expense that can mount up quickly, and Jane is not able to afford it. If you can help her out, please call (727) 669-9292 after 1 p.m.
The daughter of Jeanne Thomas of Clearwater hopes a reader will be able to help her locate a particular nonsmoking tape: the first tape of the Andre Passabecq Method. Daughter was finding the tape very helpful, but she accidentally left it on a bus.
Trying to replace the tape has been an exercise in frustration, with letters, phone calls and faxes meeting informational dead ends. So, the Thomases wonder if one of our readers may have this tape and would permit them to record it. If so, please give Jeanne a call at (727) 531-2486.
Quilter alert from Irene Love of Odessa. She has half a banana box full of fabric pieces large and small that you may have for picking them up. Just give Irene a call at (813) 926-1584, and she'll provide the easy directions to her house.
And, while she has our attention, Irene asks the Mah-jongg players among us if they know of a group in North Tampa, south Pasco County or the Tarpon Springs area that could use a participant. Irene hasn't played for a while and is eager to get back into the game.
And one last request: Can you suggest a good place to get pottery fired? (Either cone 10 or high fire.) If you can help Irene on any of these points, please give her a call at (813) 926-1584. Barbara Reeder of Dunedin needs an instruction booklet for an older Sears Kenmore portable sewing machine, model No. 158.14001, for which, Sears says, instructions are no longer available. You folks out there know the instructions drill; please get in touch with Barbara at (727) 738-0084 if you can assist.
Sylvia Marinos of Clearwater would like to borrow an 8 mm movie film editor and splicer. Her children and grandchildren will appreciate it, she assures us. Sylvia may be contacted at (727) 736-5768.
Judi Kruckeberg of Largo is a snowbird with this question: Where have all the flamingoes gone? She wants to start a collection to take back north with her but has been told this is not the season. When are Florida flamingoes ever out of season? Especially during winter when visitors from the North are eager to make their acquaintance? Call Judi at (727) 518-9792, if you can steer a snowbird to a flock of flamingoes.
