International hockey features a couple of elements that might confuse the NHL fan who checks in only every four years.
For instance, the time in each period is counted up from zero to 20 minutes, showing time elapsed instead of time left as is done in the NHL and North American minor and junior leagues.
As in North America, penalty time is counted down.
Another quirk of the international game: The home team is listed first.
