With input from residents, county officials created a development vision for fast-growing northwest Hillsborough. Now they must flesh out the details on how to accomplish it.
Beginning Tuesday, the county's Department of Planning and Growth Management will host workshops for four consecutive days to explain the Northwest Hillsborough Community Plan and get public input on regulations for it.
The plan covers a 32-square-mile area bounded by Pinellas County to the west, the Eagles and S Mobley Road to the north, Veterans Expressway to the east and Linebaugh Avenue and Sheldon Road to the south.
It attempts to limit sprawl in 11 target areas by offering greater housing densities to developers who voluntarily agree to preserve more open space.
It also encourages the construction of traditional neighborhood developments, which are more pedestrian friendly and discourage road traffic because they contain essential services, county planner Mike Callahan said. Planners also would like to see developers connect to a regional stormwater system as opposed to building isolated retention ponds.
The meetings, which begin at 9 a.m. and end at 8 p.m., will be at The Gables at West Park Village clubhouse, 9902 W. Brompton Drive.
