LAWRENCE, Kan. -- Drew Gooden had 26 points and Nick Collison added 16 as No. 1 Kansas beat Iowa State 102-66 Monday night to clinch at least a tie for its first Big 12 title in four seasons.

En route to a 49-25 halftime lead, Kansas got a combined 34 points from its trio of post players -- Gooden, Collison and Wayne Simien. Simien finished with 15, giving them a combined 57.

The Jayhawks, who came in leading the nation in scoring (92.4 points per game) and field goal percentage (51.6), hit 63 percent (45-of-72) and cracked the 100-point mark for the ninth time this season, a school record, while winning their 12th in a row.

Early in the second half, Iowa State went almost 6 minutes without a field goal as the Jayhawks unleashed a 14-0 run and brought a constant roar from the sellout crowd of 16,300 while seizing a 66-34 lead.

The Jayhawks have virtually locked up the Big 12 title. They carefully cut down part of a net -- leaving a few strings intact lest they show any disrespect to remaining opponents Nebraska, Kansas State and Missouri.

"We thought about (whether to cut down the nets) it a great deal," said coach Roy Williams, who pulled his starters with about 6 minutes to go.

"We just got part of the conference championship. We didn't want to show any disrespect to Nebraska, Kansas State and Missouri. Hopefully, they'll see it that way."

Iowa State, the two-time defending conference champion, dropped to 0-9 on the road. It was coach Larry Eustachy's most lopsided loss and virtually guaranteed his first losing season in 13 years as a coach.

"I told Roy I appreciate him taking out his superstars and putting in his stars because this could have been 150," Eustachy said. "They are a real, real solid team and as well coached as any team that I have seen in a long time."

ST. JOHN'S 71, BC 62: Marcus Hatten scored 31 and the host Red Storm held off the Eagles despite not having a field goal over the final 7:50. Consecutive 3-pointers by Hatten -- the first from NBA range as the shot clock reached one second -- gave the Red Storm a 43-25 lead with 16:20 left.

UNLV 96, COLORADO ST. 91 (OT): Lou Kelly made three free throws to send the game into overtime and had nine of his 29 points in the extra period to lead the visiting Rebels. Marcus Banks added 22 points for UNLV, which completed a two-game sweep against the Rams this season.

OREGON STATE: Junior guard Jimmie Haywood left the team because of personal reasons. He averaged 9.0 points in 23 games this season and is eighth on the school's career 3-pointer list with 93.

POLL: Kansas, the only team besides Duke to be ranked No. 1 in the AP rankings this season, moved back into the top spot, taking advantage of Duke's loss Sunday at Maryland. Maryland (21-3) moved up one place to second and the Blue Devils, who had been No. 1 for all but one week this season, fell to No. 3.

Gonzaga is seventh, the best in school history. Florida is eighth. Western Kentucky (23-3) returned to the rankings for the first time since December. The Hilltoppers replaced North Carolina State, the only team to fall out, at No. 24.

State

FAMU 69, DELAWARE ST. 62: Michael Griffith scored 17, including 15 in the second half, to lead host Florida A&M.

Jermaine Hill added 14 points for FAMU and Demarcus Wilkins and Dominique Jackson each had 12. Antwaun Dent led Delaware State with 15 points.

Hill scored on a dunk with 1:45 left to give the Rattlers a 63-61 lead, then Griffith and Wilkins hit four consecutive free throws in the final 28 seconds.

BC-C 72, HOWARD 69: Maurice Riddick converted nine consecutive free throws down the stretch for the host Wildcats. Bethune-Cookman converted 19 of its final 21 free-throw attempts and made 26-of-35 total. Howard had a chance to tie in the final seconds but 3-point shots by Gil Goodrich and Jonathan Stokes missed. Bethune-Cookman's Brian Cox came down with the rebound of Stokes' miss as time expired.

Women

WESTERN KENTUCKY: Coach Shawn Campbell was suspended indefinitely for inappropriate conduct.

Marti Whitmore, a first-year assistant and former coach at St. Bonaventure, will take over as acting coach for tonight's game at No. 23 Georgia.

Campbell's fiery style has drawn five technical fouls this season and he has been ejected from two games.

"A series of disturbing events involving coach Campbell and his conduct throughout the season have forced us to take this disciplinary measure," Western Kentucky athletic director Wood Selig said in a statement.

Campbell took over the program in July after spending a season as associate head coach at Temple. He could not be reached for comment and neither Whitmore nor any players will comment on the situation, a release from the school said.

NO. 5 DUKE 81, N.C. STATE 54: Alana Beard scored nine of her 25 points during an 18-0 run as the host Blue Devils won their 13th straight. Duke (22-3, 14-0) can join 1995's Virginia squad as the only ACC teams to finish 16-0. The Blue Devils play Florida State at home Thursday and are at North Carolina on Sunday.

POLL: Connecticut held its familiar place as the unanimous No. 1 and Cincinnati was the lone newcomer in the new AP poll. Oklahoma returned to the No. 3 spot it held earlier in the season, the highest the Sooners have been ranked. Cincinnati (21-4), which has won eight straight, replaced Wisconsin at No. 25.
