Relying on the strength of its upper weight classes, Osceola was the only Pinellas County school to fare well at the Class A, Region 3 meet in Sebring last weekend.

The Warriors advanced four wrestlers to this week's state tournament at the Lakeland Civic Center. They are: Dan Smalley (152 pounds), Jeremey Helms (171), Dustin Lestoric (189) and Tom Ryan (275).

Ryan, who was a region champion, has won 26 consecutive bouts and is trying to win his first state title. He finished third at the 215-pound class last season.

The four other county teams competing at the regional tournament -- Admiral Farragut, Clearwater Central Catholic, Northside Christian and St. Petersburg Catholic -- did not have a wrestler advance.
