St. Pete Beach

Pass-a-Grille festival has music, books, art

The third annual Island Festival is March 2 in Pass-a-Grille Park. It is a daylong event featuring live music, book signings by local authors, art vendors and exhibits.

Island Festival III is sponsored by the Suntan Art Center, Gulf Beaches Historical Museum, the Island Community Theatre and Friends of the St. Pete Beach Library.

The community theater will present short plays through the day, museum docents will lead tours through Pass-a-Grille streets, local musicians will perform, and local authors will sign books.

The art center will provide arts and crafts projects for children. Friends of the Library will sell used books.

Artists, artisans and other vendors are invited to participate. All work must be original to the artist. Sixty-five spaces are available in the park or the street. Entry fee is $50, or $25 for Suntan members. Artists should register to participate by today.

Anyone interested in renting space should call 526-0664.

Suntan Art Center's annual Outdoor Art Show and Sale is from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. March 23. Artists and artisans will have pottery, clothing, wooden crafts, paintings and other handmade items for sale.

Madeira Beach

The Pinellas Parliamentarian Unit will hold its monthly meeting from 9:30 a.m. to noon March 2 in the Madeira Beach City Hall auditorium. A coffee and social hour will begin at 9 a.m.

The unit talks about proper procedures for resolving differences in organizations. All meetings are free and open to the public. For information, call 866-3899 or 392-3263.

The Madeira Beach Seniors will meet in the City Hall auditorium at 1 p.m. March 4. Meetings are free and open to anyone over 50, regardless of residence.

There are group trips and many activities. Talk and refreshments follow the meetings.

Redington Beach

The Redington Beach Property Owners Association will meet today to consider changing its name and allowing residents to join even if they do not own property.

The current name prohibits the group from qualifying as a nonprofit organization.

The meeting begins at 7 p.m. at Town Hall, 105 164th Ave.

Treasure Island

The Sunset Beach Civic Association will hold its annual neighborhood yard sale from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday. A $5 fee covers advertising and puts your house on a map distributed to shoppers.

Each house may display its own "yard sale" sign. Call Norma Jusek at 367-6570 or Bette Lippke at 367-1422 for information.

Treasure Islettes will meet at 7 p.m. Monday at the Community Center, 1 Park Place.

The entertainment will include a fashion show by Designer Exchange, a consignment shop. Members will model. For information, call Marian Alton at 360-0164.

Indian Rocks Beach

Beginning in March, the Beach Art Center will offer classes in drawing, beginning oil painting, stained glass, watercolor, beginning acrylics and glass painting.

Call 596-4331 for details and registration. The art center is at 1515 Bay Palm Blvd., next door to City Hall, in Indian Rocks Beach.

Applications are out for the Beach Art Center's annual Spring Fling Arts and Crafts Show.

The Spring Fling will coincide with the Indian Rocks music and food festival, Beauty and the Beach, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. April 6.

Artists and crafters may obtain applications by calling the center at 596-4331.

The Beach Art Center will present the Annual Student Show in March.

The Student Show is held once a year and is open to all students who have taken classes within the past two years.

The show includes both two- and three-dimensional works. All media are invited.

Enter up to three works between 9 a.m. and noon Monday, Tuesday and Feb. 27. The show will close March 24, and work may be removed from 9 a.m. to noon March 25-27.

The judges will be Larry Pumfrey, Laverne Phillips and Terri Leonard. The entry fee is $5.

South Pasadena

The Pinellas Braille Group will hold its monthly meeting at 9:30 a.m. March 5 at Temple Beth El.

The group is looking for volunteers to help prepare texts and both fiction and nonfiction books in Braille and on audiotapes.
