Tropicana Products Inc. on Thursday went to plastic for single-serve containers of its Pure Premium chilled orange juice.

Until now single-serve Pure Premium was sold in clunky cardboard cartons. Rival brands that come in single-serve plastic or glass bottles are all made from concentrate.

Tropicana shifted to easier-to-handle plastic after new bottle technology doubled the shelf life for chilled juice shelf in the containers to 120 days.

Code-named GoJay at Tropicana headquarters in Bradenton, the patented bottle is shaped to fit the hand and designed for car and bicycle cup holders. An advertising campaign will begin during the Academy Awards show on March 24. The company most recently tested the bottle by handing out free samples at the Gasparilla parade in Tampa.
