TALLAHASSEE -- Matt Lynch struck out five and walked three, giving up one hit through 7 1/3 innings, as Florida State beat Jacksonville 1-0 Saturday.

Three pitchers combined for the Seminoles' first shutout of the season. Lynch (4-0) was followed by his younger brother, Kevin Lynch, and Eric Roman, and the trio allowed the Dolphins two hits, the fewest FSU (12-3) has allowed this season.

The Seminoles' run came in the sixth inning, when Ryan Barthelemy doubled and Tony Richie knocked him in one batter later.

Kris Regas (0-2) pitched 5 2/3 innings, giving up five hits, and took the loss for Jacksonville (4-5).

Jacksonville threatened in the eighth inning. Chad Oliva walked, Chad Hauseman singled and Bryan Williams hit a liner to Barthelemy at third base. Barthelemy's throw pulled first baseman Jerrod Brown off the bag, allowing Oliva to make the turn home, but Brown recovered in time to catch Oliva at home plate.

STARKVILLE, Miss. -- Mississippi State hired former SEC head coaches Rocky Felker and Curley Hallman as assistants on Saturday.

Hallman, who was a head coach at LSU from 1991-94, will coach defensive backs, reuniting with Bulldogs coach Jackie Sherrill. Hallman, 55, was part of Sherrill's staff at Texas A&M in the 1980s.

Hallman coached at Southern Mississippi from 1988-91, going 23-11 before a disappointing four years in Baton Rouge with the Tigers.

He was 16-28 at LSU.

Felker preceded Sherrill at Mississippi State, leading the Bulldogs from 1986-90 to a 21-34 record. Felker, 49, will be coordinator of football operations.

Felker played quarterback at Mississippi State in the early '70s before beginning his coaching career in Starkville.

With the additions of Felker and Hallman, Sherrill has four former head coaches on his staff. The two join offensive coordinator Sparky Woods, who coached at South Carolina, and defensive coordinator Joe Lee Dunn, who coached at Mississippi.
