Three men arrested in illegal booze sales

HOLIDAY -- Authorities from the state Division of Alcoholic Beverages and Tobacco on Saturday arrested three men they say were selling alcohol without a license.

All three arrests came about 4:15 a.m. at Planet Xtreme, 1040 U.S. 19.

According to reports, Planet Xtreme is licensed as a bottle club, meaning that customers may bring alcohol onto the premises but the business cannot sell alcohol.

Investigators said they observed beer and various mixed liquor drinks being sold.

Arrested were Eugene Valdes, 30, of 7649 Abbott Court in New Port Richey; David Andrew Reid, 30, of 1060 Sawgrass Drive in Tarpon Springs; and Chad Eric Jackson, 28, of 2953 Stillwell Court in New Port Richey.

All three men face charges of selling alcoholic beverages without a license.

They were taken to Land O'Lakes jail. All three men were released Saturday. Valdes posted $2,000 bail, Jackson posted $1,500 bail and Reid posted $500 bail.

Fire destroys home's garage: no injuries

NEW PORT RICHEY -- A Saturday afternoon fire destroyed the garage of a single-story River Crossing home, officials said.

The blaze started about 2:26 p.m. at 9134 Brooker Drive, said battalion chief Michael Ciccarello of Pasco County Fire Rescue. The cause of the fire was under investigation.

Firefighters arrived at 2:33 p.m. and it took 35 minutes for four fire trucks to get the flames under control, Ciccarello said. Most of the damage was contained to the garage and attic.

No cars were in the garage, he said. The residents were home, but no one was injured.
