Site Seeing
By JULES ALLEN Feel free to browse Swamp land, cheapwww.USTreas.gov/irs/ci/tax_fraud/ By this point, you've either filed your tax return and can't wait for your hefty refund check, or you are dreading dropping your 1040 in the mail April 15. Face it, if you live and work in these United States, Uncle Sam wants a percentage of you and there's not a great deal you can legally do to get out of it. It's sort of like doing the dishes in my house. This page at the official IRS Web site details the so-called "Slavery Reparation" scam as well as other pertinent and timely info. Warhol-someI thought Andy Warhol's work was a little overrated, but I'm not a member of the art elite in any city. And I'm really bad at keeping my mouth shut when it shouldn't be flapping in the first place. Those wild and crazy Brits, however, would clearly disagree. In celebration of a Warhol exhibition, the Tate is giving you the chance to grab your 15 minutes of fame. Upload what you consider to be an interesting snapshot. If they agree it's interesting, they'll Andy-ize it and put it on this site. Interesting eye candy. Caution, brain at workwww.PBS.org/frontline/shows/teenbrain/ PBS is the reason to own a TV. Well, it plus the Simpsons and the soon-to-be-canceled Futurama. And talking of things from other planets, if you're in possession of a gaggle of teenagers and wonder why they do the things they do, Frontline might be able to offer a little insight. It's running a special on the makeup of teenage brains. Stranger than fiction, indeed. Even if you're not able to see the report on the tube, this companion Web site stands alone and is a mine of information for the biologically curious. The 2.0 coming?Salon.com/tech/feature/2002/02/14/dot_net/ ArsTechnica.com/paedia/n/net/net-1.html In addition to being a technology name that drives spell checkers nuts, Microsoft's .NET is an awfully confusing array of marketing terms and technology. Even bigwig Jim Allchin, according to a recent News.com report, says Microsoft is still trying to define the message. These two links really are at opposite ends of the spectrum when it comes to deciphering what .NET is and is not. The first is a gushing example of what the technical media spit out and the latter is a no-nonsense, serious technical analysis that's quite geeky in composition. It's not for everybody, but if you're trying to figure it all out, this could be a good start. Smells freshWhy should this year be any better, movie-wise, than the past few? With the exception of a few recent gems such as The Royal Tenenbaums and The Man Who Wasn't There, Hollywood has outdone itself in the quest for wasting large amounts of money on bland rubbish. What's interesting is there's a growing backlash against such dross and sites such as The Stinkers spring up to fill the entertainment void. It's certainly not the only bad-movie site out there, but the text is more entertaining than the average bear.
