By Times staff writer In the middle of a problemJane Kaczmarek has be absent from the set of "Malcolm in the Middle" for two weeks, and the reason isn't clear. Kaczmarek's publicist issued a statement Monday saying "severe migraine headaches" diagnosed by a Fox network doctor have kept her from work on the Fox comedy. The two-time Emmy nominee plays Lois, the mother of Malcolm (Frankie Muniz) and his brothers. "There is no connection between her health issues and any contractual matters," said the statement, reported by Zap2it.com. USA Today said Kaczmarek is staying home because she wants a big raise. Neither Fox nor Regency Television, which produces Malcolm, will comment. Kaczmarek's absence has affected the production schedule. The season was already down to 23 episodes from 24 because of unrelated delays. One more episode likely will be trimmed. Most of the action takes place in his head; he reworks the fiction of his first novel and becomes the protagonist, pursuing Nazis in the 1940s. . . .
