Bilzerian home goes on marketBy SCOTT BARANCIK, Times Staff Writer© St. Petersburg Times published February 27, 2002 TAMPA -- Attention status seekers: The 3-acre Avila estate that's home to Paul Bilzerian and wife Terri Steffen can be yours for just $7.9-million. In a strategy usually reserved for mansions owned by professional athletes and actors, Smith & Associates of Tampa will feature the former corporate raider prominently in its marketing materials. A news release to be issued today describes him as a "corporate executive/entrepreneur." The release does not mention that Bilzerian was sprung last month from a second tour in prison, or that proceeds from the home's sale will be split evenly with the federal Securities and Exchange Commission as part of a settlement with Steffen. The Realtor reports that the property includes a 30,000-square-foot, 11-bedroom home and a 6,000-square-foot guest house connected by covered walkway. There's a full-size movie theater, indoor racquetball and basketball courts, a pool, a wine cellar and a seven-car garage. Don't bother waiting for the open house. Serious buyers only will receive a personal tour by agent Patricia Colmenares. Douglas Swain, director of Smith's luxury marketing division, said the home will be advertised at other affiliates of Sotheby International Realty worldwide. "Quite frankly," he said, "a home of this caliber needs the exposure. Eight-million-dollar houses aren't sold every day." © 2006 • All Rights Reserved • Tampa Bay Times
