In the newsCompiled from Times wires© St. Petersburg Times published February 28, 2002 A $1-million cookIt took Denise Yennie of Nashville, Tenn., 10 months to develop the recipe for Chicken Florentine Panini, and that time paid off Wednesday. The 39-year-old business consultant won the $1-million grand prize for her updated chicken sandwich in the 40th Pillsbury Bake-Off in Orlando. Ann Zovko of Tampa was one of four finalists in the Casual Snacks & Appetizers category for Bacon Spinach Pizza. She took home $2,000. Winner of the category and $10,000 was Pat Murphy of Modesto, Calif., for his Mexican Party Wings. Other $10,000 winners were S. Lea Mead of San Mateo, Calif., whose Grands! Little Pies were tops in the Fast & Fabulous Desserts & Treats category, and Mille Meehan of Richmond, Va., first in the Easy Weeknight Meals category with her Bow-Thai Chicken. A full report and recipes will appear in Wednesday's Taste section. Musicians raise money for industry fightA slew of celebrity musicians staged four simultaneous concerts around the Los Angeles area Tuesday night to raise money and promote their message: They want new agreements with record labels that include less-demanding contracts and more oversight of accounting practices. "This is to help artists get their fair share, and we thank you for your support," Don Henley told thousands who paid up to $170 to see him and the rest of the Eagles, Billy Joel, Sheryl Crow and Stevie Nicks perform at the Inglewood Forum. Similar concerts in Los Angeles, Long Beach and Universal City featured performances by the Dixie Chicks, No Doubt, Beck, Eddie Vedder of Pearl Jam, Trisha Yearwood and other top performers. The money raised will go to the Recording Artist Coalition, which is lobbying to change the standard industry contract requiring artists to produce no fewer than seven albums for a label. © 2006 • All Rights Reserved • Tampa Bay Times
