Eclectic country -- on a stage near you
Rhodeside is a terrific country band based in Palm Harbor. These guys run the gamut of sounds, from rockin' Americana, jazzy grooves, sassy Southern-fried blues rock, and Rhodeside's own "Floribbean jazz" sound.
Playing Through, the act's latest disc is filled to the rim with originals, both tough and tender. The act has been together for 12 years and still sounds vigorous. Just when you're bored with the tepid tunes coming out of Nashville today, a real band comes along, reminding you about harmonica, harmonies, and -- why the heck not? -- saxophone, flute, and whatever else makes the song sound fine.
Rhodeside can be found on a stage somewhere in the Tampa Bay area almost every night, but the band has a special show this weekend to celebrate the release of Playing Through. The show is at 7 p.m. Friday in the Heye Great Room at Ruth Eckerd Hall, 1111 McMullen-Booth Road, Clearwater. Tickets are $10 in advance, $13 at the door. Call (727) 791-7400.
You can catch the band at the Pier 60 Pavilion Saturday at 5 or check out its regular Sunday gig at the Holiday Inn Sunspree Resort on Clearwater Beach from 1:30 to 5:30 p.m.
