    2 chiefs to speak Saturday

LARGO -- Local residents can meet and talk with Largo Police Chief Lester Aradi and Clearwater Chief Sid Klein at a joint meeting Saturday morning. For several months, Aradi has been holding his Coffee with the Chief meetings once a month on Saturday mornings. This Saturday's meeting will include Klein and will offer residents the opportunity to talk to both chiefs about law enforcement, public safety and quality-of-life issues. The meeting will be from 9 to 11 a.m. at the Three Coins Restaurant, 1700 Missouri Ave. S. Attendees will have to pay for their own beverage or breakfast.

    Commissioner Hart endorsed by Realtors

CLEARWATER -- Commissioner Ed Hart picked up an endorsement Thursday from the Pinellas Realtor Organization, which represents about 5,400 real estate professionals. Hart, who is running against bank investment officer Frank Hibbard, was cheered for being "a strong supporter of important property rights, the real estate industry and housing issues," according to a statement from the group, which is affiliated with the Pinellas Suncoast Association of Realtors.

City's police department plans to survey 3,000

CLEARWATER -- The police department will be surveying 3,000 residents about their perceptions and interactions with the agency and its officers. The survey, the seventh the department has performed since 1990, will be mailed to residents randomly selected from the city's utilities billing list. Response rates in years past have been about 40 percent. "Part of our community oriented policing philosophy is that Clearwater's citizens are our customers, and it's important to us to know how they feel about our service and what they believe are issues within their own neighborhood," Chief Sid Klein said. "We have found over the years that this tool allows us to identify both strong points and weaknesses in our day-to-day operations." The 33-question survey asks residents to share their opinions about their neighborhood; about employees of the department; and about the department in general.
